The Norman and Beverly Brubaker Award for the 2016 Judges’ Favorite Bloom was given to Tahitian Purple Passion, Richard Johnson, hybridizer; presented by Carolyn Cormier-Stoute.
Tahitian Purple Passion is perhaps the most renown hybrid I have produced. It has won many awards at American Hibiscus Society Shows, and it is now found around the world. Like many varieties of tropical hibiscus, Tahitian Purple Passion has many faces, depending upon climate, season, growing conditions, time of day, etc. From these photos you might be able to come up with what might seem a standard rendition. Below are a few different renditions from around the world.
